Group Childbirth Classes
My classes are designed to give you the broad spectrum of the normalcy of the birth process. I teach small group weekend intensives in Brooklyn.  Typically we cover the following material:

The signs and stages of labor

When to call your doctor or midwife
When and how to get to the hospital or birthing center
What you can do during a contraction
Positions, massage and pressure points
How your partner can help
What to pack in your "Go Bag"
Why would you hire a doula?
Narcotics and epidural anesthesia
Induction
Interventions and complications
Breastfeeding
Newborn care
The postpartum period

There is no way to predict how your birth will be and there is no way for me to give an exact outcome. My goal is to provide you with a variety of possible scenarios and an expanded vocabulary of birth so that you can go into the experience knowing that there are some choices to be made and, based on the material that we will cover in class, you will be well prepared to make them.

The cost for the weekend intensive childbirth preparation class is $350

Private Childbirth Classes
I will come to your home for a private class and cover the topics that you are most interested in learning about. Prior to the class we will be in touch by email and I will send you a list of topics to help you to focus your interests.  Rarely does the class go over three hours.

The cost of private instruction is $90/hour
I will also teach small groups in your home for $90/hour per couple

Labor Support
After giving birth to their baby with the support of a doula, most couples will exclaim, "I couldn't have done it without you!" What they are really saying is that they have felt the positive experience of birth. They didn't feel alone or helpless or acted upon. A doula completes the community of people it takes to allow a woman to give birth to her baby. The laboring woman, ultimately, is the one who does the most important work, but her partner, health care provider and doula are there to make sure that she feels lifted up in an event that she will remember and refer to as the most powerful experience of her life.

Typical labor support includes:

  • On-call availability to answer any questions by email or by phone
  • A prenatal visit to discuss intentions and hopes for the birth
  • Continuous support throughout the entire labor
  • Assistance with breastfeeding after the baby is born
  • A postpartum visit in the hospital or at home
The cost of doula services is $2000

Postpartum Doula Services
The postpartum period is a delicate time.  Historically women have had the continuous support of family and friends to assist them in breastfeeding and in learning the rhythms and tasks of caring for a newborn. A postpartum doula cares for the new mother but she also ensures that each family member is comfortable in their new role.

Typical postpartum services include:
  • Facilitating infant care such as bathing, diapering and swaddling
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Running errands and shopping for groceries
  • Assisting with household organization
  • Preparing healthy and delicious food
  • Offering a listening, non-judgmental ear
  • Holding the baby so family can rest
  • Phone contact as needed
The cost of postpartum services is $45/hr

A sliding scale is available for those who are unable to afford the rates listed above.
Walk and Talk
A walk and talk session will get you out of your home with your baby while giving you the opportunity to discuss a parenting, postpartum, or birth-related topic of your choice.  This is ideal for new moms who have yet to leave their home by themselves or pregnant women who would like to talk about their birth or pending parenthood. The walk can be catered to whatever pace works for you. Going slow is fine.  Stopping for a feeding is fine.  But if more of a workout is what you're looking for, I am happy to do a run with you and your baby in a jogging stroller.   Before the walk and talk, we will be in touch by email to choose a topic and then on the day of the walk I will meet you at your home, help you with your sling, baby carrier or stroller and moderate, guide and plan a walk with you. The walk and talk will last 60 minutes including any stops for feeding your baby.

One month of unlimited email follow-up is included in the cost.
The cost for a walk and talk is $50

Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum Consultations
Birth is a time of transition and (often) transformation. Consultations in the comfort of your home can help to smooth out the rough edges of these transitions. Consultations often cover (but are not limited to) the topics listed below:

Overcoming fears and anxieties associated with birth or the new parent role

Identifying the challenges of the postpartum period

Dealing with the practicalities of new parenthood: What do I need to have in my home for the baby? How do I organize and set things up?

Discussing the "why" and "how" of hiring a doula

Assisting with sleep related issues--especially parents who are interested in sleep training their 4 to 6-month-old baby

Working through the specific challenges of colic

One month of unlimited email follow-up is included in the cost.
The cost of a consultation is $90/hr
