Childbirth Education
My classes are designed to give
you the broad spectrum of the normalcy of the birth process. I teach
small groups (no more than 5 couples) where discussion is the
cornerstone of the class. I also offer private instruction that I can
cater to your interests about the birth experience. Typically we cover
the following material:
Overview of labor and birth: dynamics of normal labor
Pain coping strategies
Positions for labor
Massage for labor
The role of the partner
Breath work for labor
Pain medication for labor
Interventions and complications
Breastfeeding
Newborn care
The postpartum body
Transition to parenthood
There
is no way to predict how your birth will be and there is no way for me
to give an exact outcome. My goal is to provide you with a variety of
possible scenarios and an expanded vocabulary of birth so that you can
go into the experience knowing that there are some choices to be made
and, based on the material that we will cover in class, you will be
well prepared to make them.
The cost for a comprehensive childbirth preparation class is $350
For private instruction the cost is $90/hour
